Living Roofs

-Green roofs, also known as eco-roofs or vegetated roofs or ling roofs is the idea of
growing plants and grass on roofs. That sounds an odd idea, doesn't it? Some countries
in Europe, America and China have implemented green roof activity by planting trees on
top of the apartment buildings and houses in response to a trend toward environmentally-
friendly technology. What does this roof do ? A planted rooftop helps to filter air,
lessen the burden on sewers by arbsorbing rainwater, providing insulation, and creating
a habitat for wildlife. It also helps to lower air temperatures in the buildings below,
and combat the strong effect to heat and the sun. Modern green roof trends began in
Germany in the 1960s. These days it is estimated that about 10% of all German roof have
been "greened". Several European countries including Germany, Switzerland, the Netherland,
Italy, Austria, Hungary, Sweden and the UK are promoting green roofs.
